Capacity and Resources

MalVa GmbH has a strong collaboration to the laboratory of Dr. Ann-Kristin Mueller at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Parasitology Unit at Heidelberg University Hospital. We therefore have access to a S3** safety insectary for An. stephensi (complete life cycle of Plasmodium allowing protection studies) and the on-campus animal facility. MalVa GmbH has well-established techniques and respective equipment available in order to conduct the entire arsenal of immunological analysis in mice (FACS-based assays, ELISpot, ELISA) as well as rodent vaccination studies. In addition we have close collaborations to research groups and companies focusing on vaccine development in Malaria and other pathogens as well as providing adjuvant systems.

MalVa GmbH focusses on:

  • Malaria liver-stage biology
  • Immunoparasitology
  • Vaccination and protection studies (predominantly murine studies)
  • Evaluation of novel liver-stage antigens in combination with different delivery- and adjuvant systems
  • Immunological analysis of immune responses in mice using different techniques to study T and B cell responses; detailed characterisation of induced immune mechanisms
  • In-vitro (human and rodent malaria parasite) and in-vivo (rodent malaria parasite) techniques to study parasite development
